Name Change to 52 Clichy

52 Clichy had a name change from B&B Wonderful to 52 Clichy in 2013.   Unfortunately in the Frommers Guide 2013 for Paris printed the old name in their 2013 guide “Paris Day by Day – 23 smart ways to see the city”.  You can still tell from the description it is us, 52 Clichy, under its old Facebook page name, B&B Wonderful.

“Try B&B Wonderful, 52 rue de Clichy 9th from €115, a fabulous B&B for two, with a separate flat that sleeps four people.  breakfast is copious; the balcony views over Paris’s steely rooftops picturesque; and the welcome, by expat owner Rosemary, perfect.  She can even give you a makeover (prices on request), as she’s an image consultant by trade.”

The Frommers guide ‘Paris Day by Day’ 2014 cited only one B&B in their whole book.  Me!

Alastair Sawday’s is also cited, a wonderful, highly reputed and award-winning website who take the time to verify every person / listing accepted on to their site (you can’t pay to go on).  Check them out not only for France but the UK, Ireland, Spain, Portugal and Italy.

A MUST DO before it ends – Picasso.mania

Dont’t miss this Must Do : Picasso.mania.

Picasso’s works have had a profound impact on contemporary art. This exhibitions presents some of his most emblematic works taken from the Picasso museum, the National Museum of Modern Art and from the artist’s family collection. It sets them alongside contemporary creations, grouped by artist; Hockney, Warhol or Basquiat etc, or by theme; still life, Cubism…

The works are presented in a way reminiscent of his own studio arrangements and include not just paintings but a variety of other media such as video, sculpture, photography and installation art.

Picasso.mania is showing at the  Grand Palais until February 29th. Tickets still available.

Come and stay at 52 Clichy. BOOK HERE.

Great Touristy Things to do

All change at the Catacombs – no 2hr wait !

For years I have wanted to visit the Catacombs as it is a huge tourist attraction. It is the ossuary of Paris which, from 1786, has held the uprooted skeletons of 6 million Parisians, some up to 900 years old, moved from over-flowing cemeteries into a small part of the 186 miles of tunnels created by limestone mining for the stone to build Paris.

Descend the 19 metre spiral staircase (130 steps) walking for about 45 minutes / 1½ miles with 200 other people, 12 at a time, through the cavernous chambers displaying the carefully arranged bones.  What has stopped me going ? Lovely guests queued for an hour last week and in Summer it is more like 2-3 hrs with no cloakroom / toilet facilities.     But that has all changed!

There is now a Catacombs ‘jump the queue’ ticket costing €27 including an audioguide which you book online. It is not part of the Paris Museum Pass package.

Book early, or ask me to do it for you.  I tried to book in 10 days time at 5pm and there were only 17 places left. If not, you have 2 other choices :

  • Queue for an ordinary ticket for €15 including audioguide and turn up, as even the official website heavily suggests, mid-week in the late afternoon. Last slot is 7pm.
  • Or try my cunning plan, be in Paris on the 1st Sunday of the month when most museums are free as my untested hypothesis is that this is the one day people will not pay to go to a museum…

Of course it is something to do in Winter and the hottest days of Summer as it will be the same ambient temperature down there all year round.

Will keep you posted when I go.

Wonderful oasis in the heart of Paris : The minute we open the street door into the quiet garden entry we realized how lucky we were to stay at 52 Clichy. We choose the spacious apartment which had everything we needed and more. Our host Rosemary did a beautiful job of making us comfortable…We will be back to this wonderful home and host.

The Apartment leaped into the Top 10 ranked by Trip Advisor

Last week the Apartment leaped into the Top 10 ranked by Trip Advisor of all +/- 6000 listings in Paris based on the consistant number of 5* ratings it received.     This is a great achievement as the apartment ratings have been gathering momentum for only a 2 year period.   To celebrate I am offering each guest who stays with me before 25th February for a minimum of 4  nights a FREE Paris Museum Pass worth €48.

A lot of my apartment guests are returnees :

– Lovely guests who come and stay in the B&B often decide that the apartment is the perfect location for when they return with their family;

– Guests who may have come to Paris for the first time and been a little nervous, decide after staying in the B&B that they are confident enough to ‘go it alone’ but as they love the area they decide only to move 2 floors away !

– Some guests come back for more wine (you have to have been a guest to know why this is important)

Thank you to all my wonderful guests who have sent in a review.
